About us
The Hellenic Zoological Society is a non-profit association of persons. It was founded in 1980 and is based in Athens. It currently has over 300 members from Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Crete and other regions of Greece and abroad. Its members are those who have a documented scientific activity in zoological matters but in addition special members are accepted which are interested in the aims of the Society.
Purpose of the Society
The aim of the Society is the study of the geographical distribution (Zoogeography), the Ecology and Systematics of the animals of the Greek area, the protection of the fauna of Greece and the study of related problems.
In order to achieve this aim, the activities of the society are the collection of scientific literature on the fauna of Greece, the promotion and coordination of this literature, the provision of information to those responsible for all matters relating to fauna and its protection, the exchange of information, the organization of symposia, conferences, lectures and discussions, the publication of articles, studies, journals or support for their publication, as well as the assistance of any other kind of activity that contributes to the achievement of the aims of the society.
